Overview of Clinic First Model

The GSP Health Family Medicine Residency Program adopts a pioneering "Clinic First" or "2+2" model, which is designed to optimize educational outcomes and patient care. The model consists of 13 blocks each academic year where residents spend alternating two-week periods in their continuity clinic and on specialty rotations. This structure enhances continuity of care, boosts patient satisfaction, and fosters a healthier work-life balance for residents.

Key features of the Clinic First model include:

Designing Resident Schedules for Continuity: Our program ensures that residents have predictable and uninterrupted time in the clinic, enhancing both patient and resident experiences.

Emphasizing Ambulatory Training: Reflecting the evolving importance of primary care and outpatient-based practices, our ambulatory training is prioritized to equip residents with the skills necessary for modern medical practice.

Creating High-Performing Teaching Clinics: Our teaching clinics serve as hubs for patient-centered care and active learning. By optimizing operations and focusing on continuity, these clinics prepare residents to lead in the future healthcare landscape. This transformative approach is designed to align resident training with the realities of modern medical practice, emphasizing the critical role of ambulatory care.
